Tanisha Mohapatra

I am a DPhil candidate in Politics at the University of Oxford, where I am a member of Nuffield College. I am on the 2025–26 job market.

My research lies in comparative political economy, with a focus on inequality and identity. My dissertation examines relationships between group-inequality and representation, studying when political inclusion for marginalized groups translates into substantive representation, and when it fails to do so. Methodologically, I combine causal inference with qualitative insights from fieldwork.

I'm also interested in how inequalities from structural transformation and income (in)security shape identity politics, and the effects of land redistribution on demand for social insurance.

Before the DPhil, I completed an MPhil in Politics at Oxford and a B.A. in Economics and Government at Cornell University.
