I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Political and Social Science, and an Associate Member of Nuffield College, University of Oxford. My research examines the political economy of inequality, identity, and democratic inclusion and exclusion, with an empirical focus on India. Methodologically, I combine quasi-experimental and experimental approaches with qualitative fieldwork.

A central strand of my work asks when political inclusion for marginalized groups translates into substantive representation under conditions of economic inequality. My postdoctoral project studies why democratic exclusion only sometimes becomes a viable political strategy in backsliding democracies, and when such strategies garner support from citizens who value democratic norms. I am also interested in how income uncertainty shapes demands for formal and informal social insurance among upwardly mobile individuals.

I completed my DPhil and MPhil in Politics at the University of Oxford, where I was a member of Nuffield College. I hold a BA in Economics and Government from Cornell University.
